South Silvan Primary School 1934

This photo was taken by Karl Klix of Wandin Yallock in 1934. The one room South Silvan Primary School was then about seven years old. The school building can be seen through the pearly-barked giant gums of the Middle Creek valley of Wandin South, described in earliest records as 'the valley of white gums.' By 1934 the area, once known as Fernydale or Ferndale, was known as Silvan South or Burleigh.
